Simply serve them oatmeal while studying the word. Two of my New Year's resolutions are to read the Book of Mormon as a family and to feed my family more of the healthy foods that make one strong, fit, and functionable. My mistake, trying both on the same day. Over the weekend I read a new nutrition book called Clean Eating. The author focuses several pages to the benefits of oatmeal. On Sunday at breakfast, I told my children of the unforgiveable way I had been feeding them, and prepared them for better things to come.
Come Monday morning I was ready! This was going to be the day my kids discover the deliciousness of the mealed oat and become lifelong oatmeal fans. I arose ten minutes early to get the oatmeal on. I set the table with bright colored bowls, put a little brown sugar out in a pretty dish with a spoon, put a cup of fruit next to each of their plates and to top it all off, I made a nutritious protein shake for each of them, because a meal is not complete without a good source of protein. I then laid their scriptures out next to their bowls, and at 7:30 a.m. a good twenty minutes earlier than usual (so we would have plenty of time to savor our oatmeal and delve into the scriptures) I called everyone to the table.
Emma immediately sat down, she is always so excited to eat healthy. Britta sat down, she is always so excited to eat! Kendyll sat down, and immediately asked for milk, like she does every morning. Shawn was even there ready to eat. Then in meanders Jackson, with a stubborn mindset and an unwillingness to compromise. He immediately starts to groan when he sees the two tablespoons of oatmeal I had put in the bowl. (I wasn't completely unrealistic, I knew I would have to start small.) His groaning then incited Emma's gagging, Kendyll saying no, no, no, and more milk, all the while I am trying to read the scriptures to my children. To make a long story short, Jackson's new nickname is Laman, for his murmuring against the truth of nutrition, Emma ate one tablespoon of oatmeal under strong durress, Kendyll drank a half a gallon of milk, and we only read three verses of the Book of Mormon. Britta actually finished her entire bowl of oatmeal kudos to her! This morning as the children came down for breakfast they were relieved to see the sausage maker out, and cereal on the counter. Scripture study did however go much better. I think from now on I will make changes one at a time. Shawn and I however are still oat lovers for life! Maybe one day it will catch on.

Stacy you are hilarious! I love your zeal and at the same time, completely understand your frustration (that sounds like a scene that could have occurred in my very own kitchen!) Keep up the good work. -Aimee
Ha ha. I've found a new healthy thing it's this organic pumpkin flaxseed granola. Anyway, you can get it at Costco (except they didn't have it yesterday- I may have to go to Lehi). It's exceptionally delicious and it mixes well with oatmeal or can be eaten alone. Good luck.
Hmmm yummy yummy Stacy. No really I wish I was motivated like you. Haws.... organic pumpkin flaxseed granola. What is my family turning into??? Just kidding. I probably need to jump on board so I don't have any more strokes eh? You can all motivate me with this baby pops. Good job Stacwe.
Good efforts Stacy...how can they not like oatmeal. I crave oatmeal, I can't wait for my breakfast I have a nice big bowl of oatmeal with frozen berries mixed in and a little splenda, it make it divine....I did hate oatmeal as a kid, so I can kind of feel for them. Its hard to change the eating habits of your kids. This Deceptively Delicious cookbood that I am trying is working pretty good for the kids, Collin is the one that has to gag it down.
